mail not working at all (perfect set-up CentOS 5.3 x86_64)

I followed this guide for setting up ISPconfig 3

all is working fine, but when i wanted to work with e-mail i run into a problem.
Webmail interface is working fine, but after sending mail, it goes to the sent-mail box, but nothing is ever delivered.

I the mail que i find hundreds of entries like this:

xxxxxx@yahoo.com shows in the real log my private e-mail, i used for testing.

Mail log is completly empty
Mail-warn log is empty.

I have no clue about what is wrong, or where to start looking, i'v searched over the internet, but most problems with mail show errors in the maillog file. It seems nothing is happening.

The services are started correctly, and with update script refreshed.

when i go to /var/log/maillog it is completly empty, same goes voor maillog.1 maillog.2 maillog.3 etc
mysqld.log does show entries, so i assume this is the correct location?

as for log, well dunno how come it's all empty...

I went one more time to my installation notices i made, and only error i found was with this instrucion:
mysqladmin -u root password yourrootsqlpassword
mysqladmin -h server1.example.com -u root password yourrootsqlpassword

the second instruction gave an error and i continued with the set-up and made a note of this.. Could this be of any reason?

The first instruction to set the sql password worked fine, and i can login to PhpMyAdmin with the password and ISPconfig seems to work also with it..

i had problem with second command also and in the end didn't even matter...so don't think that is the problem.

Also take a look at /etc/syslog.conf file and see where your mail is loged at

This means that MySQL is using another hostname. Take a look at chapter 8 on http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_server_opensuse10.3_p4 , starting with "As you've seen in the netstat output, MySQL is not only listening on localhost, but on all interfaces, which means it can be accessed from the outside."

Ok, found an important clue in this subject (I think!)

Although ISPconfig tells me that smtp server is online (see first post) I cannot telnet port 25.
It times out on the external host
It times out on localhost (when i first SSH to the server and from there telnet to port 25)

Combined with the fact the log file of the mailserver is empty this is probably the cause of the problem.

Questions that remain:
- why is ISPconfig telling me the SMTP server is online
- how to proceed with the error?

In a retry i was able to telnet to port 25, but i got nothing 'normal' like a helo message, just an escape message:

This is not wat i suspect when telnetting to a mailserver!

a log rotation file is created every week, but the size stays zero, so nothing is logged in my opion. File is really empty, when opening with VI it's an empty file.

well.. as soon as i have some time, i might just gonna go over the whole thing once more, and redo the mail server part of the how-to, or try to get it working with webmin configuration or somehthing like that..
