Pulse Audio on Ubuntu Intrepid.low volume for hda-intel cards

With Pulseaudio ,I have to drag the volume control slider to maximum-100% to hear sound at a comfortable volume.I installed alsa-1.0.19 from a repository hoping a later version will fix this.
Is there any workaround for this?

Thanks for that.it isn't exactly the fix though.seems pulseaudio needs sometime to mature. :(
