Falko/Till,
Me and my clients are having problems sending email to say, gmail and yahoo.
Also a few other email address:
salleh@matrade.gov.my
cmkasule@nssfug.org
mfaicsl@yahoo.com
Tried to send a test email to my gmail account (jaffaizal@gmail.com ). Got the following error message:
Sending failed:
Message sending failed since the following recipients were rejected by the server:
jaffaizal@gmail.com (The server responded: "<jaffaizal@gmail.com>: Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied")
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
PLANIMA
Your help is appreciated.

You will have to check "Server needs authentication" in the smtp settings of your email client.
jaffaizal
15th March 2006, 21:52
Did what you requested.
Got following error msg popup:
----------------------------------------------------------------
Sending failed:
Unknown error code 50
Your SMTP server does not support TLS. Disable TLS, if you want to connect without encryption.
Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org.
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
PLANIMA
----------------------------------------------------------------
This is what I did:
Check what the server support click in KMAIL for receiving email from pop.planima.com.
KMAIL do the setting as:
Use TLS for secure mail download
&
Authentication method as : Clear text.
Therefore I set the sending account (using smtp.planima.com:25) accordingly as:
Encryption : TLS
Authentication method : PLAIN
Set server requires authentication and used the login/password as created in ISPconfig.
What is wrong?
Thanks,
JafFaizal

Please disable TLS in your email client and try again.
jaffaizal
16th March 2006, 04:51
Disabled the TLS in KMail.
Current setting in KMail for, Accounts->Sending->Transport:SMTP->General Tab. I checked the Server requires authentication and use,
Login->web???? (ie. the same UID setup in ISPConfig. This is the same UID for my pop.planima.com)
Password->******** (ie. the same PWD setup in ISPConfig. This is the same UID for my pop.planima.com)
Setting for Accounts->Sending->Transport:SMTP->Security Tab: Encryption->None Authentication Method->LOGIN (other options are, PLAIN, CRAM-MD5, DIGEST-MD5, NTLM, GSSAPI)
Are the above setting correct?
Now receive this popup error message: ----------------------------------------------------------
Sending failed: Authentication failed.
Most likely the password is wrong.
The server responded: "Error: authentication failed" The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used: PLANIMA ----------------------------------------------------------
If I used PLAIN, got following error msg: ----------------------------------------------------------
Sending failed: Your SMTP server does not support PLAIN.
Choose a different authentication method.
The server responded: "Error: authentication failed" The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:PLANIMA ----------------------------------------------------------
BTW, following is the ehlo localhost output:
----------------------------------------------------------
suse1:~ # telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 suse1.mileswork.com ESMTP Postfix

250-ETRN
250-STARTTLS
250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN

--------------------------------------------------------
Any other setting I need to setup at the Server or KMail?
Thank

Falko/Till,
BTW, I was informed by my client that those email that bounce now, he could sent emails to them before.
Now, I'm curious that maybe external parties is using my ISPConfig email server to relay SPAM. Therefore it is blacklisted now.
How can I confirm this?
If YES, what is the remedy (how to stop this)?
But, the gmail and yahoomail is a separate issues.
Thanks,
JafFaizal

Make sure you use the correct usernames. For the ISPConfig webmail package, you must use an email address as username, but for an email client like KMail, it's the real username (e.g. web1_someuser) that you must use.
Can you send emails eithout authentication? What's in /etc/postfix/main.cf?

This is what pop up if no authentication:

What's in your mail log?
You should use normal settings in your email client, i.e., specify the smtp and pop3 server, your username and password, enable "Server requires authentication."; please do not use TLS for now.

1. Do you mean to follow the "The Perfect Setup - SUSE 9.3"-Page 5? Do exactly as requested on the page?
2. Will it disrupt my current setups (domains, email client, hostings etc)?
3. How do I backup my current ISPConfig setup, just incase everythings goes bad?

If you have SuSE 9.3 installed, then yes.
2. Will it disrupt my current setups (domains, email client, hostings etc)?
3. How do I backup my current ISPConfig setup, just incase everythings goes bad?
If you have ISPConfig installed, then this setup is exactly what you need.
However, you could back up /etc/postfix/main.cf before.

Sorry for asking again.... but you have not answered Q2 :-(
I need to reconfirm whether:
1. Doing this will overwrite my current DNS settings?
2. Doing this will overwrite my current EMAIL settings?
3. Doing this will overwrite my current Hosting settings?
4. If YES. What should I do to restore the settings after 'redoing the postfix/saslauthd'?
5. Will my current user not be able to use the email services during resetting?
6. Will this redo interrupt the DNS setting?
Hope you could answer all 6 questions.
I love you solution and hope to work out this problem...
Thanks

Falko,
I am not familiar with linux or apt-get that well. I will try ...
1. The apt-get will overwrite whatever existing in my current system, right?
2. In the following script:
-----------------------------------------------------
postconf -e 'mydomain = example.com'
postconf -e 'myhostname = server1.$mydomain'
-----------------------------------------------------
Do I replace :
example.com --> mileswork.com
and
server1 --> suse1
3. Just do the 'Postfix With SMTP-AUTH And TLS' portion right, I don't have to do the 'Courier-IMAP/Courier-POP3'?
4. Can I do this remotely from my home over ssh?
5. FYI, my hostname for the ISPConfig is: suse1.mileswork.com or www.mileswork.com
Does this have to correspond to the SSL certificates? IF YES, how do I check my SSL certificate info?
Thanks,
Jaf

Click on the lock icon in your browser. It should then display the details of the SSL cert.

=====================
BTW, in ISPConfig.
1. Management TAB/Server/Settings:
Server Name : Suse1
Hostname : suse1
Domain : mileswork.com
And, in KMail. SMTP settings tabs.
1. Is it Port 25?
2. Server requires authentication selected. Used the same Login/Password as for POP setting.
3. Under the Security Tabs - Encryption = NONE, Authentication Method = LOGIN.
4. In the Sending Tab, do I set, Message Property = "Allow 8-bit" OR "MIME Compliant (Quoted Printable)"?
Is the above settings in KMail correct?
Thanks

Don't know about this one as I don't use KMail, but I don't think it has something to do with your problem.

What about the installation steps? Are they correct? Else... how else can I check to rectify my problems. OR is there a possibility of you logging into my system?
My clients using Outlook Express/Outlook is also experiencing the same problem I am experiencing.
BTW, GMAIL set to port 465. Do I set to port 465 as well?
Falko... appreciate your help. I do not want to jump onto another platform to manage my hosting.
Thanks.

This:
postconf -e 'smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated,permit_mynetworks,check_ relay_domains'
should be
postconf -e 'smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated,permit_mynetworks,check_ relay_domains'
OR is there a possibility of you logging into my system? We would have to charge you for that kind of support: http://www.ispconfig.org/support.htm
BTW, GMAIL set to port 465. Do I set to port 465 as well? No.
