Sites directory?

Is there a way to access a sites directory without the DNS?

If I want to stage a site for mysite.com and have the accounts setup with that information, can I go to the shared IP and put a path to get to that sites folder?

You can add the DNS to your "hosts" file.

thank you for that. but if the domain is active and registered to other servers, I am unable to do so without taking down the site.


I am looking for a similar cpanel solution if possible that allows me to take the user name after the shared ip and resolve it to the user directory if possible.

You can do this without taking down the site.
The hosts file is on the pc that you use to access it. it's not on the server!
