Hi,

I have set up ISPConfig3 on my Ubuntu 8.1 webserver. I am trying to make some FTP users, but it doesnt seem to work? I notice that [CLIENTNAME] is before the username on the add users page. Can you give me a guide as to what to do to get FTP access?

Thanks,

phenner

If you installed ispconfig 3 exactly as described in the ispconfig 3 documentation then ftp users should work out of the bix. Just add a new ftp user in ispconfig and then use the ftp username that is displayed in the list after you created the ftp user to access your website by ftp.

I have installed ISPconfig to the tee. When I make a user account for FTP, the username in the list is shown as defaultusername, where username is what I really want it to be called. Either way it doesn't let me log in.

Any ideas?

Did you create a client? Create a client, login as the client, then create the ftp user.

I do not like this with ispconfig3 - when no client is selected and a database or ftp user is created the user is named - defaultuser, IS THIS A BUG?

Well I have just tried that, and it still isnt working. I have the same issue with my IMAP server, created the email in ISPconfig3 and then it says I am using the wrong password. :@

You missed to add the prefix for the FTP username.

phenner

Prefix? What do you mean?

Prefix? What do you mean?

Prefix is the client name:

client_ftpusername

Look under System / Interface config

What happens if you run /usr/local/ispconfig/server/server.sh manually as root?

Right, after removing every piece of hair on my head, I decided to go for a complete reformat and use ISPConfig2. This has so far proved successful and FTP now works fine. Seems a much easier system to get your head round. However I am still unable to access the email. I have installed Rouncube Webmail and it just won't let me log in. I am fairly sure I have the correct details this time because Rouncube just times out after about 5 minutes, whereas with using false details it just says Login Failed.

Any ideas?

Any errors in your mail log? Did you send an email to the new account before you tried to log in?

phenner

SMTP (which was working) stopped, so I restarted the server. Now everything is buggered! OpenSSH won't work, ISPConfig is inaccessible from external and internal sources.

Help!

Thanks,

Rich

What's the output of netstat -tap?

Do you see any errors in the logs?

I had a similar problem when adding a new ftp user. I had to restart the pure-ftp service for the login to work.

In the headline of this post you write that its about FTP users in ISPConfig 3, but the error message above is about a directory /root/ispconfig which means that this is a ispconfig 2 server and not a ispconfig 3 server. Also you run proftpd which is used by ispconfig 2 and is not compatible with ispconfig 3.

Till,

As you can see from my previous posts. I reinstalled my server with ISPConfig2. The above errors are from the Apache2 error log.

Any ideas as to how this error can be fixed? Apache2 won't start unless these errors are fixed.

Thanks,

Rich

Please make sure that you are able to login to mysql with the username and password in the pureftpd configuration file.

I still get the same problem.

Can not find the solution yet.

All solutions are described in this thread. Please read the complete thread and try the suggestions made here.

Also, without a exact description of your problem, we do not even know if its the same as in many cases poeple believe that their problem is described in a thread while they have a completely different problem and thats why the solution does not apply to their setup. So its always better to make a new thread with a exact problem description.

I'm also unable to use FTP after a reboot. I have read thru the forum but nothing works. How do I restart the pure FTP service?

service pure-ftpd restart does not work as service package is not installed by default?

FireFTP just show: Unable to make a connection. Please try again.

till

Like all services, you can restart it with the start / stop script in /etc/init.d/ directory.

Yes! I'm on ubuntu. But I do not have this problem for many months until today. Let me know the page that instruct on downgrading pure-ftpd when you find it! Thanks!

radim_h

Maybe you haven't used SSL/TLS before. Without secure protocol PureFTPD works

Here is page about it
http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/LLXmL1KM1gKVDzIYrDIv
another one http://markmail.org/message/536fxy4iciqx5zxu

As they wrote in discussion Maverick - Ubuntu 10.10 has the bug fixed, so the solution will be use the Maverick package in your Ubuntu 10.04
link for maverick package: http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/proftpd-basic

Can anyone confirm that Debian Squeeze have the same bug or not?

ProFTPD with ISPC 3.04 will be imo the best solution :)

I had same problem. But found out that if you enter 'darthvader' your actual ftpusername will become "defaultdarthvader".

This is prolly to avoid clashing of different vaders from very different sites.

Mainteners should put some help text there because it is confusing for new users.
