I want to try to build my own server, but got no experience.
Im am planning on following the suse 10 perfect setup howto, bur i dont know if i need all the services. Could i do without the dns server and the mailserver? I dont need any of them.
The reason i wantede to try it was also to see how isp was to work with.
Hope u can help, and please be patient, as i said i got no server experience.

You can install your server without BIND, but then you wont be able to install ISPConfig.
Every Linux server needs a mail server, the only question is if you want to configure it for local mail delivery only or for external access.
I would recommend to follow the complete howto, otherwise you might skip a step and later some of the services that you need are not working.
