I'm setting up my new server using Suse10 perfect setup and the server can send but won't receive emails. I installed webmail b4 i tested sending or receiving any email.

postfix identifies itself as SERVIDOR.moretohelicopteros.com.br and maybe thats one of the problems. bcause the domain moretohelicopteros.com.br is one of the domains i plan to move to this host later but it still somewhere else. how do I fix this?

SERVIDOR:~ # telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 SERVIDOR.moretohelicopteros.com.br ESMTP Postfix

a more complete description of my instalation can b found on
http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2691

I guess this will help too:
I cut & pasted only the part that matters for mail

SERVIDOR:~ # netstat -tap
Active Internet connections (servers and established)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN 13528/master
tcp 0 0 *:pop3 *:* LISTEN 6359/couriertcpd
tcp 0 0 *:imap *:* LISTEN 6292/couriertcpd
tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN 13528/master

really weird too is that i'm sending the same email with a copy to a second adress
to ig.com.br and with copy to netscape.net
I only get the email in the ig.com.br account it never gets properly delivered to netscape and i'm not receiveing any error messages saying it couldn't be delivered or anything like that.

below is the mail header of the email that gets deliverd to ig.com.br

Did you enable Maildir in ISPConfig (Management -> Server -> Settings -> Email)?
Also, what's in the mail log?
Is your server on a DSL line with dynamic IP addresses? It is possible that Netscape blocks emails from dynamic IP addresses, maybe also from IP addresses without a proper PTR or SPF record.

Hi Falko !

mail dir is enabled.
The server is on a DSL line with a static IP.
I think a good thing to start with would be a valid HELO form postfix how can I fix this ?

I was checkin the mail log and it has many itens in the queue and seems like postfix still didn't give up...
and about netscape, I fond this in the log http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554rtrdu.html
Now that I know that I can't send mail some isp, I will see what I can do about it.
how can I remove the messages from the queue?

But most important my ISPConfig mail accounts still don't receive any e-mail and I'm not getting and error message back.

part of the mail log after a restart las night:

Your domain points to a private IP address that cannot be reached from the outside. That's why your emails don't arrive.

Hi Falko ! thanks for the help:
I felt like there was something wrong in the DNS but since I'm not familiar with DNS I'm still clue less on how to configure it right since I want DNS to serve both my LAN and the web as well...
I changed and its like this now:

SERVIDOR:~ # dig praude.eti.br

; <<>> DiG 9.3.1 <<>> praude.eti.br
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:

I'm still can't receive mail, but maybe I have to wait until dns changes propagates.
I think there can be something else wrong in my configuration

For now, Carnaval is already going on here in Brazil, I'lll get back to this on ash wednesday.
Good carnival for everyone !

Looks ok. Maybe you should consider creating an MX record also for praude.eti.br.

In ISPConfig under DNS Manager dns entry records has a MX record:
http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=87&stc=1&d=1141310512

dig in localhost show a MX record:

SERVIDOR:~ # dig @localhost -t MX mail.praude.eti.br

Do you use Maildir or mbox format for your mailboxes?

This looks as if you forwarded mail from the user admispconfig to another account. You will have to remove that forward or alias to fix this.

Since this is still a test server, Im seriously thinking about starting the installation all over again. Maybe I'll just uninstall ISPCONFIG e install it agin or I'll try a different distribution. Any sugestions?

Use Debian in conjunction with this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_sarge :)
