Can't Set Root password/login to root account

I have installed Fedora 9 several times on my Mac Powerbook machine. I have carefully watched what keys I am entering when prompted to enter the root password. After installation I will try to type the same password into the login screen and it will not work.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Are you using any special characters in the password? If so, I'd use a password without special characters.

No I am just using regular alphabet (A,B,C...) characters
