Client logon to server (like a Windows Domain)?

How do I set up my Linux clients to logon to the Linux server (like you would in a Linux domain)? I have the users added on the Linux server, their home directories intact. But how do I tell the client to logon using the server, and not the client itself?

Also, any way to do this as an SSH connection, too?
