I am currently running a samba server on Mandriva 2006 on a wireless network (54Mb/s) in my house.

What kind of access speeds do you normally get on a wireless network as I am getting about 500,000kb/s lan transfer when both machines access the router wirelessly and up to 2,500,000kb/s when one of the machines is wired and the other is wireless.

The 500,000kb/s seems slow to me and I am wondering if there is a problem with my setup?

I found this on http://www.wifirst.fr/help/faq.jsp:

What is WLAN's data transfer rate ?
The theoretical data transfer rate of 801.11b is 11 Mbps. The actual transfer rate depends on the signal quality and the number of users on the network. The actual transfer rate adjusts itself dynamically based on the network's capacity and may pass from 11Mbps to 5.5, 2 or 1 Mbps.

500 kbps (I think this is what you meant) seems to be quite low...
