I followed the 'perfect server' guide on howtoforge but when I try to run setup I get the error message that my os is not supported (ubuntu 7.10).
I don't know what to do with dist.txt to make it work - I thought it was supposed to work out of the box if I followed that guide...
any ideas?

i did :
wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ispconfig/ISPConfig-2.3.3-dev.tar.gz?download
so i guess thatd be 2.3.3

2.3.X is the development branch and not the stable branch which is 2.2.X. If you want to use ISPConfig on a production server please use 2.2.18 which is the current stable release.
Version 2.3.3 is older than 2.2.18, so it does not have ubuntu 7.10 support yet, but next version will have.

ohhhhh
i mustve just picked the first one i saw on the page (which shouldnt have been the second one, but...)
I ssh'd back into my server, thinking that I would remove the dev version first, but it was gone? the entire folder "install_isp...." was gone. maybe it was somehow temp - I dont understand servers well yet, this is my 1st. oh well.
I'm dl'ing the right version now...
Thanks!

The install directory erase itself if the install fails. So everything is just as it should be :-)

Thank you, that was very convenient. Now i have my next issue here:
http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18522
I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall just for that conf (since I can't access from the website), meanwhile I need to read up on domain hosting so I understand a but more what I'm doing here.
The 'perfect server guide" is great, but I never understood 'why' I did what I did...and I still dont know what i'm doing!
