Help!!!
i have ruined 6 dvd's already.
i am trying to burn dvd's using k3b and or nero linux
on both they burn about 12 % and then fail and eject the disc.
using fedora 8 k3b that came with fedora.
got a error 5 using k3b
and a error using nero but no error code
dvd's i use are tayo yeudon 8x +r
is there something in terminal that i can type in to correct this?

Correction: I did pull this out of the log on nero:

05:25:57 PM #23 TRANSFER 4 File TransferWriteFileItem.cpp, Line 168
Error reading file
/home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT ROD AC/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB

Why would it have trouble reading from my movie folder? Permissions?

Thanks

What's the output of ls -la /home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT ROD AC/VIDEO_TS?

[Radon@c-69-141-3-163 ~]$ ls -la /home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT ROD AC/VIDEO_TS
ls: cannot access /home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT: No such file or directory
ls: cannot access ROD: No such file or directory
ls: cannot access AC/VIDEO_TS: No such file or directory
[Radon@c-69-141-3-163 ~]$

Which is weird because i can see the files and i can also click on any vob file and play it with mplayer or vlcplayer

I have 2 gig of memory and
I also notice my memory at 90%
is that my swap file memory?
and do i need to adjust the size of my swap file?
here is the size of my 150 gig system:

Hi ek49,

you have to escape the spaces in the path - try:

ls -la /home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT\ ROD\ AC/VIDEO_TS

Maybe k3b and nero linux have also problems with the spaces. You should try to remove the spaces or to replace them with underscores (/HOT_ROD_AC/).

Best regards,

Olli

much better
now how can I get Nero or k3b to see this?
actually go in and change the folders name?
from what i see, from what you are telling me, it hangs up when it gets to Hot Rod AC.
so just a change to hot rod ac, to: Hot_Rod_AC would enable my burning again?

If that fixes that, then I have a few more questions for you
I an a real newb to Linux, (10 days into this), but am a computer geek for windows.
i am trying to learn and it is so different.
i have about 10 more issues i am trying to fix
is there a time we could get together either by instant text or live chat and get me up and running?
if not then we can do this the old fashion forums way
thanks again!

Please try this:

chmod 644 /home/Radon/DVDFab/MainMovie/HOT\ ROD\ AC/VIDEO_TS/*Afterwards Nero and k3b should be able to read the files.

thank You
will try it

Still no luck.
another coaster.
now i have a major problem!
there was a up date in yum for linux kernel and some security updates
i installed them and now my desktop is foo-bar
i can't get nvidia to work, says failed, when i go to nvidia settings, says my x-nvidia is not setup so run xnvidia-config
did that and it put me in text mode on boot up. I need to clear all nvidia drivers and or packages from my system,
and then correct this. i was using the perfect desktop for my settings for fedora 8. i had a problem with setting up the gnome effects and googled it and had to edit the xorg.cong file and did a repo on the nvidia drivers to get the effects to work
but after the update, all is messed up. I also cannot use gnome desktop effect because my nvidia isn't setup. A upgrade should not have done this correct? i need help real bad now
any way we can xchat to get this going? name a time and day or is there a irc channel with guru's on that i can have help me fix this mess?

Hi ek49,

seems that you don't have installed the packages yum-fedorakmod and yum-kernel-module. Please install both to prevent such problems in the future. It would also be a good idea to install yum-skip-broken and yum-fastestmirror.

yum -y install yum-fedorakmod yum-kernel-module yum-skip-broken yum-fastestmirror

Now your actual problem. A new kernel has been installed although there was no fitting kmod-nvidia-package available for this new kernel. So start/restart your computer and hit a key when the grub-screen appears - select the older kernel and start with it. Afterwards remove the new kernel or always start with the older kernel till the kmod-nvidia-package is available for the new one. In the future the two yum-plugins that I mentioned first will prevent such problems - If there is a new kernel available without the fitting kmod-nvidia-package you'll not be able to install the kernel with yum (you'll get a warning).

Have you used this howto -> http://www.howtoforge.com/installation-guide-fedora8-desktop for your setup? There are all things explained - including the yum-plugins, the livna-repo and the nvidia-setup (+compiz-fusion).

PS: I sent you a private message .)

Best regards,

Olli

I installed fedora 8 using the perfect desktop on the main page in fedora 8
i had everything working except the dvd drives and i need lessons on getting around in terminal. Will revert back to the old kernel
