I am new to this and I need help really bad
I am tired of windows and want to use fedora 8
and I heard of a program called wine that I can use for windows programs. I installed fedora blindly and it is working, but I don't know if I set up the partitions right and the sizes. i have a 150 gig HD and I do not plan on using windows if I can use wine. if I need windows, then I need to dual boot the system.
I just want internet, email, play steam games, like counter strike, and source, and Hl2. Burn movies with dvd platinum. I am very windows savvy, a tech for 15 yrs
but this is very greek to me and I do not want to mess anything up
can I adjust the partitions I have or do I need to start fresh again.
I have fedora 8 dvd and rescue cd.

What's the output of df -h?

If you want to resize your partitions, take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/partitioning_with_gparted

For a list of applications supported by Wine, take a look here: http://appdb.winehq.org/

code what code?
like i said, i am new to linux
with a 150 gig hd, what would be a good partition setup
assuming i can use wine for my windows programs
i will strictly run fedora and set it up using the ultimate desktop in your forums

do i run that in terminal?

[ek49@radon ~]$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 57G 3.7G 51G 7% /
/dev/sda1 21G 56M 20G 1% /boot
tmpfs 1014M 12K 1014M 1% /dev/shm
[ek49@radon ~]$

Your /boot partition is huge. It's enough if /boot has 150MB. You can use the rest for swap (about twice the size of your RAM) and the / partition.

thanks
as for the partition, do I activate it, and what do i make with it, ntfs or fat 32 or something else?
also i cannot get my nvdia icon to show up in my settings.
I am on page 4 on ultimate desktop for fedora 8.
and what i tried did not work according to the page
I have the latest downloads for the driver and yum is installed.
I have a Gforce 6800 gt / 256 meg video AGP
any help would be great.

Also, This is what I have now after running Gpart
Hope I did it right
smallest boot it would allow me is 737 meg:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 77G 4.3G 71G 6% /
/dev/sda1 737M 28M 679M 4% /boot
tmpfs 1014M 12K 1014M 1% /dev/shm
[ek49@radon ~]$

and i have the rest as NTFS
I have to format that right?
also on shutting down I get all the services closing and I notice one error:
"stopping irqbalance - Failed"
Important?

I have to format that right? If you want to use it for Linux, then it's probably best to format it with ext3.

also on shutting down I get all the services closing and I notice one error:
"stopping irqbalance - Failed"
Important? That's not important as the system's shutting down anyway.
