Slow Bootup using ubuntu 7.10

I'm running ubuntu 7.10 on a p4 1.4GZ T42 Thinkpad with 512 of ram 40 gb hd. It take longer than my windows pc. please give me some idea of what I need to do. I used the same machine with PCLinuxOS 2007 and it FLEW!!! so I don't think the hardware is the issue. can I have some suggestions about less a less bloated linux OS?

Do you see any errors in the logs or in the output of dmesg?

there were no errors...it just runs slow...maybe I should just use something that is less intensive on my resources? I love it though.

Maybe Ubuntu doesn't like your hardware as much as PCLinuxOS did...
