VMWare Server+Mui configuration

Hello!

Recently I've decidet to give it a shot and install VMWare Server on my Ubuntu 7.05 desktop from a repository and VMWare mui according to the information provided in this tutorial http://www.howtoforge.com/vmware_server_1.0.4_plus_mui_ubuntu_7.04.
My first problem is that I can't log in to the web interface as root nor as anyone else.The user with administrative rights is the owner of the VMs.

Second problem is that the keyboard doesn't seem to work in a Debian Sarge ISPConfig virtual appliance.I'm typing but can't see the letters on screen.
It boots normally.The virtual machine is ok,because it was tested on VMWare Server on Windows and ran fine.

How can I reconfigure virtual network interfaces settings to adjust them to the vm's network settings ?

Try changing the permissions on the files for the virtual machine that have black screen, I know that this solves this at my setup.
F.x. chmod 777 /var/vm/vmmachine -R (know 777 is much to give, but cant remember what the minimum permissions is)

To reconfigure the nic's on a compiled installation of vmware server I run
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
By the way a "compiled" installation takes no time and is very easy on a Debian box.

'Can't see the letters on the screen' covers quite a wide area. Can you see anything at all - boot messages etc or is the screen blank?

As lwh.dk says, the XXX.vmx file in your virtual machine folder for your install needs to have at least 755 and sometimes 777 permissions.

The ISPConfig virtual appliance on Debian has a German keyboard installed. It leads to 'interesting' results if you are using a US keyboard.

As far as I'm concerned, the MUI is a toy, not worth bothering about. Install the Linux client if you want to administer the VM's.

I can see everything but when I type,the letters that I type don't show up on the screen.
I've switched the keymap to Polish some time ago.

There is no /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl here but I've found /usr/bin/vmware-config-network.pl and it helped me reconfigure one of the vmnet interfaces.
Still figuring out the rest ....
