Question, I installed the clamv per instructions for our suse9.3 setup for ispconfig and added it to the chkconfig to start at boot. what keeps it uptodate? is there a command i have to issue manually to update the virus defs? Also is it a full system realtime scanner??
thanks!

ISPConfig uses its own clamav binary. If you installed the SuSe clamav too, the SuSe package wont be used.
Clamav is updated by the freshclam daemon.
Clamav is not an onAccess scanner as deafult. ISPConfig uses clamav as email antivirus scanner.

How can I check if updates are retreived from the web and what the latest active virusdefinition is?

You can check the update status and load the latest updates with this command:
/home/admispconfig/ispconfig/tools/clamav/bin/freshclam
