View Full Version : Mandriva Free 2007 Mouse Issue

Today I took the plunge into Linux and installed Mandriva Free 2007. To achieve this I unplugged the HD containing my Win XP system and plugged in a spare drive. The installation went OK, despite not fully understanding several of the pop-ups that came on screen. Everything seems to be working OK but for one small problem - the mouse is now lame. It refuses to move, and I can only navigate around the OS via the keyboard, which is somewhat difficult.

To verify that it's not a hardware issue I shut down, re-connected the XP drive, and the mouse functions normally. The mouse connects via USB.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Any kind assistance should please keep in mind:
a) I can only work via the keyboard; and
b) I am totally unfamiliar with Linux. For years I have wanted to make the transition but all the "beginner's" guides lapse into Linux lingo by line 2 or 3 and totally lose sight of the fact that beginners are in fact just that - beginners - despite, in my case, having 20+ years of contending with the wondrous OS emanating from Redmond. So please, keep the explanation utterly straight-forward.

It seems that your mouse isn't supported by Mandriva (is it maybe a cordless mouse?).

Maybe yo should try Ubuntu instead, I think their hardare support is a little bit better.
