I installed VMware following the steps given on http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_vmware_server; but my new virtual machine cannot be powered on.
the message showed on screen is
"Unable to change virtual machine power state: The process exited with an error:
End of error message."
Can any one help me out? A million thanks!

Does this happen with each vm? Have you tried different distributions in the vms?
Did you recently update your kernel on the host system (Dapper Drake)?

Thanks falko.
Now the Error message appears on the screen is
"Unable to change virtual machine power state: The config file /home/vip001/vmware/Ubuntu 3.vmx is not registered.
Please register the config file on the server. For example:
vmware-cmd -s register "/home/vip001/vmware/Ubuntu 3.vmx"."
I actually don't know much about computer at all...I think I did update my kernel on Ubuntu. I haven't tried other different distributions in the vms.
so do you know what I should do fix the problem?
OH, another question is how can I install the VMtools in Ubuntu 6.06?
Thanks a lot.

Please run
vmware-cmd -s register "/home/vip001/vmware/Ubuntu 3.vmx"
and try to start the vm again.
