Hi folks,

I've just installed Debian 4.0 Etch using "The Perfect Setup-Debian 4.0 Etch".

While the installation I choosed as Language "German" with a "German Keyboard-Layout", but the specail German characters (Umlaute) are not displayed correctly.

I also installed the "Midnight Commander" (apt-get install mc), but the display is also totally fuc...!

I don't know what to do. Can anybody help, please ?

Best regards
Cowboy

On Debian you easily can add support for additional languages with:
dpkg-reconfigure locales

Hi Hans,

thank you for your help, but the fault was on my side :-( !

I had forgotten to set my SSH-Client (PuTTY) to UTF-8.
Therefore I did'nt get the displayed characters correctly !

Best regards and thanks
