Hi all and please excuse me if I am in the wrong forum, I am new. I do have one simple question: Is there a way to install/configure X on the server version of ubuntu? Or is the server accessible through the LAN via a web browser?

I am currently using sme server, which can be configured through a web interface.

Thanks to all in advance, this looks like a nice place to be and good software, judging from the documentation and help available.

Are you talking about a control panel for web hosting? You can install ISPConfig on the server: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_6.10
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_6.06

A desktop on a server is a security risk, so you shouldn't do that.

Hi Falko and thanks for the reply,

sorry I should have specified, what I meant was can you configure the server through a graphical interface of simply through the command line? you know, creating users, configuring spam/firewall and the like?

Thanks again and regards

I've never done it through desktop applications, and I highly doubt that you can do everything that you can do on the command line, so I recommend to get used to the command line.
