warning: SASL: Connect to private/auth failed: No such file...

On Hardy I used to get messages like this:

 Oct  6 11:50:17 air677 postfix/smtpd[1419]: warning: SASL: Connect to private/auth failed: No such file or directory
Oct  6 11:50:17 air677 postfix/smtpd[1419]: fatal: no SASL authentication mechanisms

After I added in /etc/postfix/main.cf:

   smtpd_sasl_type = cyrus

   cyrus_sasl_config_path = /etc/postfix/sasl/

 The problem was solved!
