Thanks for the excelent howto Hans. One remark though. When I follow your instructions, my g2data directory gets created in /var/www/web1/web. According to the Gallery2 security instructions (http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Security#Short_Check_List) this is not a good thing. Instead the g2data directory should be created outside the document root, which in this case could be in /var/www/web1, I guess.
